If you plan to snowshoe in Estes Park, Black Canyon Inn has you covered. Not only do we offer well-appointed accommodations where you can warm up and rest after your outing, but we also have some local tips and tricks to ensure you have a great time. Here’s our guide to snowshoeing in Estes Park.

Estes Park Snowshoe Rental

Before you start voyaging through the snow, you’ll need snowshoes. There’s no reason to pack snowshoes for your trip, as they are quite hard to pack, and Estes Park has several places where you can rent snowshoes for a reasonable price. Estes Park Mountain Shop is one such place; you can rent snowshoes and poles for just $6.

Where to Go Snowshoeing in Estes Park

Now that you know where to get your snowshoes, it’s time to decide where to put them to use. Fortunately, there’s no shortage of places to go snowshoeing in Estes Park.

The best place to start is Rocky Mountain National Park, which provides some of the best snowshoeing opportunities in the country. If you’re new to snowshoeing, we highly recommend getting your feet wet at Bear Lake Loop. With its flat terrain and short length of under a mile, Bear Lake Loop is ideal for a quick and easy snowshoeing experience. There are several other trails at Bear Lake; if you’re looking for more snowshoeing in the same area, continue on to Nymph Lake.

If you’re looking for a challenging but rewarding snowshoe trail, try Deer Mountain. This six-mile out-and-back trail is on the strenuous side, but it offers spectacular views of some of Rocky Mountain National Park’s peaks, including Longs Peak, the largest in the park.

If you’re looking for a guided experience, Rocky Mountain National Park offers ranger-led snowshoe walks from mid-January through mid-March. To reserve your spot, call 970-586-1223.
